109 Participants Attend Physics Olympics Workshop

          The 2008 Regional Physics Olympics Workshop which was the first seminar to be held at Maxino College had 109 participants coming from 27 schools. Cebu was represented by Santander National High School, Badian National High School and Perpetual Succour Academy Inc.  Siquijor was represented by Candaping High School.

           From Dumaguete City, the schools were RTPM- Dumaguete Science High School, Negros Oriental High School,  Taclobo High School, Caterina Cittadini St. Louis School, Foundation University, Silliman University and Negros Oriental State University.  From the rest of Negros Oriental province, the schools were San Miguel National High School, Dauin National High School, Siaton National High School, Carmel High School, Pulangbato National High School, Amlan National High School,  Lourdes Ledesma del Prado Memorial National High School, Bais City High School, Bais City Science High School, La Consolacion College of Bais City, Manjuyod National High School, Ayungon National High School, St Anthony Academy,  Paniabonan High School, La Libertad National High School and Tayawan National High School.

            Dr. Gerardo Maxino discussed the beginnings of the Physics Olympics in the Philippines and how its practice grew with the Philippine Physics Society over the years.  Then he discussed the physics principles that govern the seven games.  Dr. Vicenta Maxino gave some tips on how to manage and run  Physics Olympics in a school or between schools.

             The participants were then divided into seven groups for the seven games.  The students were assigned as the contestants while the teachers were to act as judges or facilitators.  However, if a teacher insisted that he needed the chance to practice a game, he was given the option to become a contestant.
