Student Life

At Silliman University, we seek not to make our students a mere “employed” statistic; we strive to mold career providers, innovators, shakers and movers of society …  individuals who view themselves in relation to the greater community.

Student life at Silliman is one that develops not simply competence but more importantly a faithful relationship with God and a strong character that manifests genuine concern for mankind. We develop the whole person in our students. Thus, while you may only have one body as you enter our Portals, you live five lives at Silliman: Academic Life, Spiritual Life, Sports Life, Cultural Life and Dorm or Campus Life.

ACADEMIC LIFE
Our concept of education is one that doesn’t limit learning to the confines of the classroom. We bring our students to where the action is -- We test their skills and knowledge of theories and principles by providing them opportunities to work with people coming from different cultures, social orientations, and educational backgrounds.

SPIRITUAL LIFE
Silliman does not discriminate against other religions. While the University is affiliated with the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, majority of its students are Roman Catholics. It plays home as well to Muslims and students coming from other religions. It is our belief that while we may have our own ways of worship, we are children of one and the same Creator.

SPORTS LIFE
Sports facilities at Silliman are among the best in the Province. We believe that sports is a vital component in the holistic development of our students. Thus, we provide various opportunities to keep our students fit and healthy through sports like soccer, swimming, basketball, badminton, tennis and archery, among others.

CULTURAL LIFE
We bring in to Silliman nationally- and internationally-acclaimed literary, performing and visual artists. Five shows are in store for our students every semester compliments of the Cultural Affairs Committee. These shows aim to elevate our students’ appreciation for culture and the arts.

DORM LIFE
A number of our notable alumni have stayed in our dormitories during their college years at Silliman.  Our dormitories serve as a “home away from home” to our students. It is in the dormitories where our students learn more the value of camaraderie, discipline, and proper time management. Just like academic units, dormitories at Silliman line up for their residents fun activities for the semester.
