Dr. Cornelia C. Soto, a professor and author from Ateneo de Manila University facilitated a seminar-workshop on Test Construction last Friday, October 3 to the faculty members of Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria, together with the faculty members of the Catholic diocesan schools as participants.
The two-day seminar-workshop on Test Construction aimed to improve the standards of teaching and learning processes and strengthen the pursuit of transformative education initiated by COSCA. As part of the overall process, the schools’ curriculum materials and workshop were designed to complement and reinforce each other in improving teachers' knowledge, beliefs, and practices in Science and Math instructions to further address students’ needs in the area of academic competency. The participants of the activity were so blessed to have the presence of Dr. Soto who skilfully assisted them in the endeavour.
The facilitator has been an educator of Ateneo de Manila University for more than thirty years now and in fact, has authored several books such as; A New Look in Math, Integrated Mathematics I, Integrated Mathematics II, Search 3 (Science), Experiencing Language 3, and Araling Panlipunan. Dr. Soto has also written and published educational magazines and journals in Math and Science subjects. She has been facilitating seminar-workshops all over the Philippines on Mathematics, Science, Language, Educational Evaluation, Educational Measurement, Art of Questioning, and Administration and Supervision. She serves Ateneo University as Subject Area Coordinator in Mathematics, Assistant Headmaster for Academic Affairs, and Faculty of the Education Department of the school.
The Test Construction Seminar-Workshop was a collaborative effort of COSCA and the Center for Educational Measurement (CEM) as one of the competency-building exercises lined up in the Faculty Development Program for School Year 2008 – 2009.
